Viticulture:

The vines are cane pruned, vertical shooting positioning trellis and crop thinned.

The Merlot is the Bordeaux Clone 18 and the Nappa Valley Clone both planted on their own roots. The rows run east west direction up a hill.

Wine Making:

The Merlot was hand-picked, destemmed and kept as whole berries for fermentation.

Gentle cap management with two-punch downs daily for 14 days followed by malolactic fermentation in barrel.

Pressed to French Oak barriques with 33% new oak.

Aged for 18 months in oak before bottling.

Tasting Notes:

This vintage sees the first time our two clones of Merlot blended; Clone 18 from Bordeaux and the Nappa Valley Clone. Clone 18 brings a highly perfumed nose with aromas of ripe fruit, raspberries, Christmas pudding, blackberry and hints of burnt sugar from the oak. All the fruits follow through to the palate giving a complete mouth feel and finishing with finesse and length.
